SWAN at 60

Jubilee Anniversary Committee Ready The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Wednesday inaugurated a Local Organising Committee (LOC) for its 60th anniversary celebration.

The inauguration was held at the Association’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Isaiah Benjamin, SWAN President, urged the committee to work with unity, focus, and dedication, adding that the LOC carried a key responsibility in delivering a successful Diamond Jubilee.

Said he: “The National Secretariat will provide logistics, mobility, and access to ensure a smooth process”.

Benjamin stated that the committee’s members were chosen based on their track records and capacities to deliver.

He added that the Secretariat, alongside the Main Organising Committee (MOC), had begun a stakeholders’ engagement and advocacy visits.

He urged the LOC to commence work immediately.

Ben Ogbemudia, the LOC chairman, thanked the national leadership for the confidence shown in the committee.

Ogbemudia, an Editor at the New National Star, pledged full commitment to deliver a successful celebration.

Noted he: “We understand the gravity of this task. By God’s grace, we will not fail”.

Anietie Patrick, a veteran broadcaster, was named Secretary of the committee.

Other members include, Sylvanus Ofekun, Ferdinand Duruoha, Niyi Busari, and media strategist, Aderonke Atoyebi.

Onn the committee also are, Ndubueze Chidoka of Radio Nigeria, SWAN FCT Chairman, Kelechi Onwudiwe, and Chukwunonso Arinzechi of Democracy Radio.

SWAN had also activated Article 19 of its Statutes to set up a Special Awards Committee.

The committee is chaired by Abdulgafar Oladimeji, former SWAN Secretary in Kano State.

Said he: “The National Secretariat will provide logistics, mobility, and access to ensure a smooth process.

The seven-member committee will screen and recommend awardees for the anniversary.

The SWAN @60 Diamond Jubilee will honour past heroes and showcase the Association’s future vision.

The two-day event will hold in Abuja from Oct. 30 to Oct. 31.
